Faith Formation

Parents United in Prayer: A Litany for Our Families
by Erin Houser
This past Sunday, while our children were engaged in their Faith Formation classes, parents gathered as usual in the gym for adult formation. We started the morning with prayer. Together, we prayed a Litany for Parents, lifting our families to the Lord and asking Him to strengthen every home represented in the room.
We acknowledged something many parents quietly carry: there are seasons when prayer feels hard. There are days when we are overloaded, spiritually dry, mentally and emotionally exhausted. There are moments when faith feels difficult to access, even when we deeply desire it.
And in those moments, we need one another.
There is real power in a room full of parents praying together. When we gather as a community, we are reminded that we are not raising our children in the faith alone. We stand side by side, united in a common mission. Together, we ask God to strengthen our marriages, our homes, and our hearts. During our litany, we prayed for: wisdom in guiding our children; unity between spouses; trust that God is at work, even when we cannot see it; patience when tempers arise; and perseverance when faith feels difficult. Most of all, we recognized our deep need for God’s grace. Parenting is a beautiful vocation, but it is not one we can fulfill on our own strength. We depend on the Lord to supply what we lack, to renew us when we are weary, and to work in the hearts of our children in ways beyond what we can accomplish.
Let's continue to pray not only for our own families, but for one another, trusting that God hears the prayers of His people and that He is faithfully at work in every home. Let us keep asking, together, for the grace to raise our children in faith, courage, and love.

GRIEF SHARE Returns to SJN March 3rd, 2026
Losing a loved one changes everything. The emptiness, the loneliness, the sense that life has been turned upside down can feel overwhelming. If you’ve experienced this kind of loss, we want you to know: You’re not alone, and there is help available.
We invite you to join our GriefShare group beginning on Tuesday, March 3. Session is from 10-11:30 am. If evening hours work better for you, please call Tonianne if enough interested individuals would prefer an evening session, one can be added.
Grief Share is a 13-week program. It is built around a 3-part design. Each session will show a short 20-30-minute video. There would then be a small group discussion with an opportunity to talk about information shared in the video and/or any challenges you may be experiencing. There is no expectation that you need or must share in the group discussion. You may choose to just listen if that is what feels right for you at that time. Each participant will be requested to donate $10 towards the purchase of the workbook. SJN will cover the additional $10 for each book. You may take notes in the workbook during the video or reflect on some of the short exercises and journal prompting with scripture passages in between the sessions. Registration is required to plan for supplies. Call Tonianne at 717 569-8531x 229.
Pew Cards
Beginning this Sunday the Mental Health Ministry has placed take home cards in the pew with scripture verses referencing the 3 pillars of Lent- Prayer, Fasting & Almsgiving. Take one home and reflect on the passage and when possible put into expression.
Updates:
1.Our MHM has added new Scripture cards to the Pews for this second week of Lent.
2.The Mental Health Awareness Bookshelf has Lenten Topic Care Notes as well as the Scripture take home cards from the first week of Lent. Please take a moment to stop by and help yourself to the resources.
3.Pope's Prayer Intention for March: For peace and disarmament, especially nuclear disarmament.
The Pope's Prayer Network Monthly Prayer for Mental Health - March 2026
This month the Pope’s prayer intention is for peace and disarmament, especially nuclear disarmament. Living under the threat of total destruction from nuclear war creates lasting fear that diminishes mental health across generations. Pope Leo said that “the temptation to have recourse to powerful and sophisticated weapons needs to be rejected.” Peace and mental health are inseparable. Effective disarmament is a commitment to protecting the dignity and mental health for those of us living today and those who will follow. We pray that world leaders choose the path of dialogue, diplomacy, and peace instead of violence.
