There are so many opportunities to be involved at Saint John Neumann, and so many reasons to be involved! Listed below is a brief description of each of our regular volunteer activities.
Find something that you think you could make a difference in, and fill out the form below to be connected with the person in charge of that ministry. There is never any risk from learning about a ministry!
Some of our ministries require youth protection clearances. If you need clearances, you can find the requirements here.
The Ministry of health and healing is central to the life of the church, like Jesus, who was devoted to healing the physical, emotional and spiritual brokenness of His people. We at SJN Parish Health Ministry will address these needs among our parishioners. We hope to assist in restoring a sense of wholeness and healing to those in need.
The goal of this ministry is to provide a meal for the bereaved family and friends in a comfortable setting, i.e., the Social Hall, following the service, to celebrate the life and memory of the deceased. This ministry is open to all parishioners who wish to either donate a side dish or dessert; or who wish to help by preparing food trays in the kitchen, or by serving the buffet.
The Disability Advocacy Committee is made up of volunteers who serve in a number of different parish ministries. Our goal is to help make our parish a place of welcome for those living with a disability.
Our program includes:
This group was formed in 2006 by several parishioners mindful that our Blessed Mother has asked us to pray the rosary daily. This group now includes over 40 men and women who regularly participate in this ministry and have developed a friendship during this time of prayer.
All are invited to participate in praying the rosary Monday through Friday following the 9:00 a.m. Mass.
The St. John Neumann Food Bank is supported by parish food drives and monetary donations. Volunteers pack food bags at the Lancaster County Food Hub (formerly the Lancaster County Council of Churches) every Thursday from 1pm to 3pm. The Food Hub is located at 812 North Queen Street in Lancaster.
The Food Bank generously donates bags of food to families that are provided with new housing by Off the Streets.
Since 2013, Off The Streets, a 501(c)(3) volunteer-run organization, has helped over 800 homeless and low-income neighbors in the Lancaster area move out of shelters or other temporary living arrangements and into permanent housing of their own. Local service agencies refer individuals and families—80% being women and children—who are ready for permanent housing and can afford the monthly rent, but simply need some additional support getting back on their feet.
OTS pays the rental security deposit and/or delivers basic apartment-sized furniture, beds, and housewares on move-in day. Recently, Tabor Community Services named OTS its 2016 Housing Partner of the Year.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are in need and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, and its patron, St. Vincent de Paul. Members, who are called Vincentians, provide spiritual, material and financial aid to those in need working with them to bring them out of poverty.
